The Best Robot Vacuum For Pet Hair on Hardwood Floors

A high-quality robot vacuum can make a big difference in keeping allergens like pet hair and dust under control. Not all models are identical.

There are a myriad of options available for you to choose from, whether you need a pet-friendly vacuum or a robot that can complement your other vacuum.

1. Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge

The G30 Edge, the latest model in Eufy’s budget series of robotic vacuum cleaners is the most up-to-date model. It's a sleek black design with blue and rose-gold accents that resemble a smartphone. It's easier to use than the previous models and offers features like BoostIQ that automatically increases suction power to ensure better cleaning of all surfaces. Smart navigation is used to avoid the repetition of the same areas, which is common when using bounce-navigation.

It is effective in getting rid of pet hair, crumbs and dust on hard floors, but falls behind the best vacuum mop combo for pet hair models when it comes to getting rid of dust from carpet. In our tests, the G30 Edge missed 74% of the flour on hard floors, and 26 percent on carpets, which is disappointing.

A feature that makes the G30 Edge stand out is its ability to map your home's layout using a digital map within the app. This lets it keep track of the rooms it has cleaned previously and prevents it from returning to those rooms, a major frustration with other robots that rely on the use of old-fashioned magnetic tape to mark off areas that are not allowed to enter.

The G30 Edge also has other advantages. It has a "Find My Robot" mode that blasts out loud music until it is found, and a directional keypad that lets you move the robot. It also has a built-in auto return function that sends it back to its charging station when the battery is low which is a crucial security feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D-Shape robotic is a mighty machine with a variety of intelligent features. It cleans floors that are bare well, and it climbs on high-pile carpet fairly easily. The app has advanced features such as boundary lines and remote access to the robot as it is in operation, and many other options.

This model is the latest in a long line of Neato robots and is distinguished by its unique "D" shape when viewed from above. This design has several advantages, including improved corner-cleaning and a bigger bin of dust than most other models. The D-shape lets the robot to reach under furniture better than robots with a circular design.

The D-Shape will stop briefly before starting a cleaning cycle using a spinning infrared camera to scan and assess the area. Then, it will begin to clean in a grid and move in a systematic manner from one area to the next until the floor is completely covered. This method is more thorough and effective than competitors using a random method.

The d-shape design allows the D-Shape to have a large dust bin, with 700ml, compared to 400- 600ml for similarly priced robots. This capacity increase will save you time and effort by reducing the frequency of emptying the bin. The D-Shape has a flat surface at the front that allows to maneuver over obstacles like chairs and tables. In our tests, the D-Shape did get stuck under a four-legged stool as well as an electrical cord that was not covered but it was able to break free each time.

3. Roomba i3+ EVO

The Roomba i3+ EVO is a great choice for pet owners. It's great on hard floors, and does a great job of removing dirt like pet hair cereal, rice and other small particles. It isn't as good on carpets, but is still better than other robots in this price. The Roomba i3+ EVO is also very efficient in navigating between different flooring types and doesn't get hung up on transitions the way older models do. The dual multi-surface brushes flex and adjust to different flooring types. They also have a tendency to not tangle pet hair.

The i3+ EVO's obstacle avoidance isn't as robust as the other robots we evaluated, and it frequently hit objects in our tests, such as handbags, shoes and pet toys prior to continuing on its path. It also had issues dealing with coarse kosher salt, which it blew over and around instead of picking up.

The i3+ EVO is packed with features that make it well worth the cost over other Roomba models. These include the ability to self-empty the bin and more advanced control via an app. You can schedule cleanings, set custom routines, and create no-go zones for areas you do not want the robot to access. Its intelligent scheduling can suggest additional cleanings during peak allergy times and based on your regular routine. The system for navigation is not reliable and can cause vacuums to be erratic patterns like diagonals or zigzags instead of parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty, XL

With detailed mapping technology, this intelligent robot knows your home better than you do. It also comes with dual brushes that adjust to different floor types and avoid tangling, making it the ideal choice for households with pets. You can control the robot via the app, or turn on it hands-free by using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. And the dock, dubbed Omni, automates the tasks of cleaning and refilling the robot's water tank and debris bin, emptying it, and charging and drying the mop pads.

It's a great price. The Shark AI Self-Empty XL is cheaper than a lot of other robots on our list and yet comes with advanced features, such as mapping and an automatic self-emptying trash bin that can hold a lot of dust. We tried it out in a home with a mix of unfinished floors and low-pile carpeting and found it to maneuver and clean exceptionally well, even navigating corners. The vacuum does a great job of picking up pet fur on carpeting. However, it doesn't have as much power as our top choices.

However, best robot vacuum for pet hair on hardwood floors the Roborock S4 Max is better constructed, takes less time to recharge than the Shark, and provides an array of automated and scheduling options, including support for zones that are not allowed to be used. We'd still recommend the Shark when you're looking to buy something less expensive or should you prefer to use your mobile phone to control and monitor rather than a remote that is specifically designed for it.

5. Bissell SpinWave Wet and Dry

This robot can do both vacuuming and mopping. The two-tank system of this robot lets it mop or vacuum with the press of the button. It was able to easily switch between surfaces in our tests and excelled at cleaning pet hair from both hardwood floors and carpets. It also includes an edge-sweeping tool for removing cat hair from walls and baseboards.

This is a good pick if you want an affordable model that comes with extra features. It was able to maneuver around obstacles in our testing and can be controlled via an app or your voice. It even has scheduled cleaning and has a large dustbin to capture messes before they become full. It can take up to 166 mins to complete its task however, it is faster than other robots that we have test.

The main feature of this robot is the front-facing camera that lets you monitor the cleanliness of your home on an interactive map within the app. This is especially useful when you're trying to locate a specific item or if your children have spilled glitter from your festive decorations all over your floor. It can save you a lot of frustration by finding that lost item right away. Additionally the battery is not fade-proof and can last for up to 130 minutes on a single charge.

6. Roomba 694

The Roomba 694 looks upscale and delivers a thorough cleaning. It is extremely adept at maneuvering its self and can get under low furniture without becoming stuck. It's also ideal for low-pile carpet and rugs. However, it could be caught in rug tassels and has trouble getting around corners or tight spaces. It also struggles to pick up pet hair on all surfaces.

Despite the 694's limited feature set, it still performs better than the majority of competitors. It scored the perfect score in our cereal-carpet test and was able to pass our test on cat litter with just a few scattered pieces of litter left behind. It's not as effective on hardwood floors, though. Its side brush scatters huge cereal particles that stick to the floor instead of being vacuumed. It also had a hard time collecting table salt on bare flooring, as many grains were slid across the floor.

It supports voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant via an external device (sold separately). It identifies your cleaning habits and offers personalized schedules. Cliff Detect and a edge-sweeping tool will ensure that it can get into difficult-to-reach areas, while Dirt Detect sensors alert the robot to areas that are soiled heavily. It has a dustbin that automatically emptys and the battery lasts for around 60 minutes. The pricier iRobot j7 has a more advanced suite of features and is more stable on all surfaces. It's also more durable, has a bigger dustbin, is faster to charge and is able to navigate obstacles like electrical cords better.
