Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and a growing global demand.

Our service is able to offer private ADHD testing as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history, as well as an assessment using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your examination After your assessment, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your particular situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, via video link or over the phone). Your clinician will explain the different options available for you to take medication and if you decide to start on medication we will suggest titrating the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process may take several weeks and it involves gradually altering your child's medication until the proper balance is achieved. It is not unusual to need to titrate three or four medications before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It's important for parents to participate in this titration process, and keep an eye on their child's behaviour so that they can let the doctor know whether the medication is helping or causing side effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment, you will receive an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You'll be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication - this includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. The appointment will usually be conducted via zoom video call. In some cases, it may be possible for an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again with an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss any treatment options we have and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a review of your medication dose and an examination of any side effects you might be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask questions about your family history as well as the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you might be suffering from. This is because ADHD is a genetic disorder and it is essential to examine any family history that might suggest that you are at risk of developing the disorder.

It is important that you are honest and transparent to the doctor during the assessment, since the information they gather will be used to determine whether your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step in the process since a failure to do so could lead to an inaccurate diagnosis and consequently an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you've decided you'd like to receive treatment for your ADHD We will schedule a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this field. This can be done within the first few days of your diagnosis if you are eager to begin treatment right away, or within two weeks if you want to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options available to you.

We recommend that if you are unsure about your preferences, talk with your GP prior to scheduling your private examination. Some providers have different policies regarding whether or not they require an GP letter. Find out if your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic for medication prescription.

Medication

For many who wish to obtain an individual diagnosis of ADHD medication is a crucial aspect of their journey. The process of getting a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be a hassle and lengthy. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.

One method titration to avoid this is to request your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can pick a provider who offers an assessment that is private and the titration. This can cut down on wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient if you are working and have a busy schedule.

After you have been recommended, your physician will examine you to determine if need medication titration. You will be asked to fill out forms that differ by doctor but the most common ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood and Titration Process adulthood. These forms will allow your doctor to determine if there are any reasons that suggest that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication, even if they have been prescribed.

If you are on a titration medication, it is likely to include a mix of non-stimulant and stimulant medications. The combination will be carefully tested and monitored to find the most suitable combination for you, taking into account any medical conditions you may have. The titration process can be lengthy and may need several additional appointments before you are stable on your dose.

Depending on the type of medication you're taking, follow up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly. The appointment will involve your doctor making sure that you are stable on the medication, noting any adverse effects you have had and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you're on a safe dosage. You will be required to go to an annual review and a routine health exam that includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.

Psychiatrylogo-IamPsychiatry.pngFor some it could be because they are content with their medication and don't need any further discussion on their titration. If, however, they require further discussions regarding the titration process and treatment plan, it's possible to be passed back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. In this scenario the titration will be included in the consultation fee. The medication will be administered via the private prescription. This may cost more than prescriptions from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
